Chinnor Ladies 2 Reading 4 AET - Chinnor Ladies do us Proud |

Although falling at the first hurdle, Chinnor Ladies put in an admirable performance in the first FA Cup tie to be played in the village. Two goals from Emily Maul almost gave Chinnor a famous victory, but a late Reading equaliser took the game to extra time and eventually Reading's experience showed through as they ran out 4-2 victors.
How many of you know there is a Chinnor Ladies team?
Well there is. Chinnor Youth Ladies, and they are pretty good!
They started life as a 7 a side team three years ago, playing in the Oxford girls football league, progressing last year to 11 a side football in the Thames Valley Ladies league, where they managed to finish half way up the table, with some very creditable perfomances, with our top goal scorer Katie Stanley finishing the season with 29 goals. That made her the third highest scorer in the league.
This year the ladies will once again be playing in this league, but to give them a taste for the big time, it was also decided to enter the ladies into the FA cup, where we drew Reading in the first round.
We knew from the league that Reading play in, that they were going to be very tough opposition, but wound the ladies up to give it their best shot and to go out and enjoy themselves, stating "It is not every day that you get to play in the FA Cup"!
It was clear from the opening exchanges that Reading were going to live up to expectations with some very smart passing and some very solid tackles, but that did not phase Chinnor who raised their game to cope, to the extent that at half time we were 2-1 up. Despite a fantastic display by every single player in the Chinnor side, Reading showed their experience, scoring late on in the game to take it to extra time, eventually going on to win 4-2. A very relieved Reading side went into the changing room after the game, walking in with a lot of respect for the display our girls had given.
The most important thing that the Chinnor ladies showed, was that they have nothing to fear from this sort of opposition, which will stand them in good stead for the current season. Results and tables for which, can be seen on the Thames valley ladies league web site, http://www.tvcwfl.com . At the time of writing we sit in second place following 2 wins and a defeat.
All our home games are played on a Sunday afternoon at 2pm at Whites field, and I would encourage anyone who has an interest in football, to pop down and watch the ladies at some point, where I think you will be surprised at the standard of play.
To ensure that we continue to feed this team, there are also now girls teams from Chinnor playing at under 12, under 14 and under 16 level, in this years Oxford Girls Football League, who also play their home games at Whites field but on Saturday mornings. All the girls and ladies train on Wednesday nights at Whites field, from 6.30.

Chinnor Football Club are starting their 3rd season in the Hellenic League & have shown steady progress
finishing 11th & then 9th. The club was originally formed in 1884, making it one of the oldest clubs
in Oxfordshire, and then reconstituted in 1970 playing in the Wycombe & District League, the Chiltonian
League and subsequently the Oxfordshire Senior League. Since reconstitution, the club has won a number
of cup and league competitions but their highlight was undoubtedly in winning the Oxfordshire
Intermediate Cup in 1980.
The coming season is one filled with optimism, as it seems that finally the parish council are going to
grant a new lease over the field allowing the possibility of ground improvements to finally become a reality.
This season also sees the side strengthened with the addition of several players from near neighbours
Thame United. On the field the club are aiming for another top 10 finish, which should ensure qualification
for the newly formed Division 1 next season. Off the field the hard work is already in progress as the
committee seek the necessary ground improvements & the obvious fund raising that is required.
